Museum of Discovery and Science - Powerful You
Roto’s current design-build project for the Museum of Discovery & Science in Fort Lauderdale is approximately 4,500 square feet in size, at a fixed total budget of $1,085,000 (including planning, design, production and installation). Sponsored and heavily influenced by the preferences of a local major medical institution, “Powerful You” (client’s title) features 4 main zones, each with 5-6 interactives, display objects, an updatable interactive video station for changing medical content, and very large photographically-rich environmental graphics. A key value of the exhibit includes placing the visitor at the center of the experience, allowing young and old to use their own bodies and stories to explore themes in health, prevention, medical imaging, surgical technology and trauma care. Interactive elements are largely open-ended and inquiry-driven, appealing (unlike many “health” exhibits) to a wide range of audiences, from young children to adults, general-interest participants to industry experts.
The project was recently installed in Fall 2010.
